this ones for you agapanthas

when i started this blog over a year ago i gave it a name that had personal significance to me. i am the youngest of five, three older sisters and one older brother. my sister Anita was working in a nursing home on the top of the range in our home town of toowoomba. life circumstances saw me living with Anita for most of my senior years at high school and into my uni days. if i wanted to drive her car around i would have to go to her work to get the keys after school while she did night shift. whenever i went to this, to me, dark cold smelly nursing home (smelly like really old people smell)i would talk with the more coherent residents. one in particular would call me goldsworthy and Anita agapanthas. those names have sort of stuck for us and when i say them it brings back many wonderful memories of my teenage years.
anyhow my sister anita/agapanthas has been living overseas for many years now, she has been back and forth for almost 7 years i guess, and she has given my girls nick names.
she calls lili care bear, mia pussicatti and claudia cherry liqueur. i have forgotten why she calls mia and claudia those names but lili actually looks a bit like a care bear she owns.
anyhow little miss claudia has skipped a size in clothing.. she went from size 2 straight to size 4!! when i dug out some hand me downs look at what i found... she looks so sweet in it and it is a perfect fit.
it is a matching set :o) there's even a cherry on the back ok here she is being cute. here she is performing her favourite pastime, (hey clare.. how bout a quote that says if friends were boogas i would pick you? how do you think that would sell?? :o) and this is her usual up to no good look!! not sure where this great set came from, either my gorgeous sister narelle handed it down to me or some friends at school passed it on, whereever it came from we love it.
i miss you agapanthas and hope you are home in time for your birthday next year.

you know you're sick when...

  • you get mail and you don't get excited.
  • you throw away a whole plastic bag full of used tissues.
  • you let the children go to school without their hair neatly brushed.
  • you don't take the children to school because you are too exhausted to get them organised and take them.
  • you need to rest after 10 minutes of up time.
  • you don't shower for 24 hours.
  • you sleep until after lunch time.
  • you sleep through 5 text messages.
  • you deliriously think you have...swine flu, pneumonia, pleurisy, DEATH (not really but the aches did kill)
  • you trust your husband to do everything but you know he hasn't and you don't care.
  • you suck on your asthma inhalers like they are your life support and get no relief.
  • you say no to CHOCOLATE.
  • no one wants to kiss you.
  • you get excited when you can breathe through one nostril.

in all seriousness... i think if i was tested for swine flu i would test positive ^_^ i am slowly recovering and feel bad for whinging when i know that there are gorgeous ladies reading this . that are seriously ill (and not just for one week).

fingers crossed i will be back on track by next week, the children are all starting to have the sniffles i just pray they don't get what i have!

till next time

monsters v.s. cowboys

i don't know how this happens, but all of a sudden i have full blown snotty, sneezy nose, hot and cold flushes and a headache. i really feel like i am getting the flu! blah, so glad tomorrow is a day off. my nose is already red raw and the sneezes only started about 3pm!!
anyhow i have been enjoying the past few days of stitching but have come to a conundrum, i started this gorgeous monster stitch...
which i have now backed, but noticed on my swap partners page that she would like to decorate her toddlers side of the bedroom in a cowboy theme so......
i started this little fella but not sure of what little phrase to put with it. i want it to be a friendship based phrase, so if you have any suggestions...
not sure why it is turned again. now i have to choose between the two... or do i?? maybe i can just send both and let mummy choose :)
i have posted about my 'cup of tea' stitchery on my other blog icantsewcreations you and check it out, it is my favourite.
god bless the queen!! thanks to that gorgeous (some might say crusty) lady, we have a day off tomorrow. i promise to do all of my school work tomorrow and no stitching!!
have a great week.

calling all sleuths

it was a day like any other day, house hold chores completed, stitching started and coffee drunk. time to pick up the eldest child from school, mailbox checked as usual... squeals of delight as middle child finds a little package.
out of habit my first reaction is to turn it over to see who the sender is and this is what i found.
ok a little bit more investigation... look at stamps to find
so now i know it is someone here in my homeland. i scrutinize the writing and think that i can recognise the writing but it could be any number of people i know... aarrggg.
at this stage my curiosity level is off the chart and so is Mia's as she opens it up to find..
THE SWEETEST re-purposed wooden scrabble tile pendant with a babushka on the front!!
isn't she sweet??? even better in real life let me tell you.
who could have sent this to me?? and why???
when i get home i search the net for these pendants and find the exact one on a site for the pendant factory in Melbourne. my search is tightening... but i am useless at this sort of stuff so i need your help.
if you sent this to me please tell me, i really would like to repay you for your friendship, kindness and generosity. if anyone else out there knows anything about it please tell me!!
i really am the luckiest little chicken around!

creative sicky bums

unfortunately our household has been under the siege of 'sicky bum' (bonser speak for diarrhoea) since Monday night. on Tuesday morning i was called home from work to pick up poor old lili as she had soiled herself and needed to be at home. poor old mick came home from work and spent that night and the next day on the toilet then last night Mia had her turn... she has been home today and seems to be on the mend already. the funny thing about this bug is that everyone seems to be in good health other than racing to the toilet every time a rumble begins. so what to do when you get to stay home from school?? you get crafty...
lili painted this wooden bear
and Mia begged to stitch something.
she asked me to draw a mouse, the problem is that i am not very good at drawing so here is her guide.
almost done not sure what to do with it...
the baby is almost awake and i have more stitching to do, fingers crossed that she doesn't catch THE BUG.

p.s. the luck keeps rolling... remember our visit to daybro day?? the girls entered a competition when we visited daybro the other day and mia and claudia won a $25 gift voucher each to a local book store! we are one lucky family

a post on a tuesday?

hello, i would not ordinarily be writing on my blog at 10:30am on a Tuesday morning but a little accident has brought me home... this morning 3 out of 5 people in this household felt ill... 3 out of 5 had toilet issues and 1 out of 5 'sharted' as she so eloquently put it. my eldest did have a slight accident in her knickers, but i didn't really give it much thought. 3 out of 5 decided to just keep soldiering on and headed off to before school care and work. 5 minutes after i got to work i got the call from before school care to say that the eldest had soiled her knickers and would need to go home. my profession does not respond well to this sort of conundrum at 8am in the morning. our blessed secretary rang a list of relief teachers and finally found someone to relieve me. i picked up a solitary lili from before school care and as soon as we reached home the toilet was in use... and has been frequented many times in the past 3 hours :( when i rang mister moo to tell him of the situation he was... you guessed it on the toilet!! yes he is one of the 3 that is under the weather. i wouldnt be surprised if he came home too. so that is the reason i am here and not at work.
onto nicer news...i discovered this blog coloured buttons a few weeks ago (cant remember who recommended her blog, might have been christy from sweet tidings) and have been totally blown away by her creativity. you really should check out her matchbox Monday posts... really creative. anyhow, a while ago Trixie found a toy rabbit who needed a name. Mia decided that the bunny should be called Minty and that is exactly what Trixie called the rabbit. in gratitude for finding a name, Trixie sent the girls a gift each!! yes my little girls are winners too.
Trixie sent them a little poseable worm, each one is different and oh so cute. Minty had also included some shells that she had gathered while in the sea ( you have to read the post on this toy to understand, just scroll down till you find it) and we have added them to our collection of miniature shells. thanks Minty! each worm came with a tag and from memory... lili called hers ~Megan~ Mia called hers ~minty~ (she really likes that name) and Claudia called hers ~Olivia~
i had to hunt them down in order to photograph them, i found one wrapped around a tea pot, another around a mini vase and another in the arms of my wooden art doll. and when they aren't hanging around on the hutch they are....
cuddling fairies or hanging round with lions or nibbling on our strawberries!
thanks a bunch Trixie, you really brightened their day! i just love them, they make me smile and i like it when they get moved around the house.
now don't hit me through the screen but... i have won another giveaway!! i didn't mean to honest. i entered a few giveaways from sew mama sews may giveaway and i won a gorgeous tissue case and some buttons, i am overjoyed. do your self a favour and head over to sew funky and scroll through her posts. her vintage fabrics are to die for! thanks Dione you are a gem.
ok off to feed the sick one some bland toast and hope that vomiting doesn't accompany this bout of 'sicky bum' as we like to call it round here.

Bonser Day Out

no photos to show... but we had a wonderful day at Daybro Day. i went to sleep on saturday night with the best intentions of going to mass to celebrate Pentecost Sunday at 9am however i just couldn't get myself showered and ready in time :) after feeling rather guilty with myself, i decided that we would do SOMETHING for a change. too many weekends go by where we spend the day cleaning and pottering and listen to the children bicker. so while i showered, mick and the girls got dressed and ready for trip to the Daybro. what a great day we had, the street closed to traffic and stalls all over the place and to top it off an antiques and collectibles fair! the weather was amazing and we really enjoyed strolling aimlessly all day. rides, trash and treasure, shows, cakes and good old fashioned church stall prices... boy what a day!!! i would like to add that is seems to be harder to find a bargain these days!! have a great week mmmwwwwaaahhh rosey
